A Helping Hand for Patients - Patient Advice and Liaison Service

A New Voice for Patients and the Public in the National Health Service

Are you interested in the NHS? Do you want to ensure that the views of patients, carers and the public are taken into account in the planning and delivery of health services? Then this is just what you have been waiting for!

The Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health (CPPIH) was set up in January 2003. It is an independent public body sponsored by the Department of Health. The role of CPPIH is to ensure the public is involved in decision making about health and the delivery of health services. It will work to ensure that the voice of both public and patients are heard in health matters.

An important part of the Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health will be a network of local, on the ground, groups - these are called Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Forums. There will be a PPI Forum for each NHS Trust and Primary Care Trust in England. PPI Forums will be made up from people just like you!

Who can be involved?
The CPPIH promotes involvement in health and healthcare issues and wants to encourage participation from all parts of the community.

How can you get involved?
For further information, please contact CPPIH on tel: 0845 120 7115, or e mail: communications @cppih.nhs.uk or write to: The Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health - Enquiries, PO Box 11442, Birmingham B2 4WP.
