Coronary Heart Disease
Do you know that:

· Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most common cause of death in the UK and currently kills 124,000 people a year.
· Death rates from CHD in the UK are among the highest in the world.
· In the UK it is estimated that about 1.4 million of you have had a heart attack, 330,000 each year.
· Within Sefton CHD accounts for 21.2% of deaths BEFORE the age of 75 (1999).
· CHD costs the UK economy about £10,000 million per year.

To a large extent, CHD is a 'lifestyle' disease because it results from aspects of our culture and lifetstyle that have come to be accepted as normal. The main contributors to heart disease are:

· Physical Inactivity
· Smoking
· Diet

The Healthy Lifestyle Programme along with many local partners are aiming to reduce CHD levels across Sefton through increasing awareness of and access to lifestyle interventions.
